1. Why does my sewing machine break the thread while sewing?

This is usually caused by incorrect threading or the thread tension being too tight. Completely remove the thread, re-thread it according to the guide, and check the tension adjustment.

2. Why does the lower thread clump together (form a bird's nest)?

Contrary to popular belief, this problem is usually caused by incorrect threading of the upper thread. Re-thread the upper thread with the presser foot up and make sure the bobbin is positioned correctly.

3. Why does the needle keep breaking?

The needle may be bent, dull, or unsuitable for the fabric thickness. Also, pulling the fabric too hard while sewing can bend the needle and cause it to break.

4. Why does my sewing machine skip stitches?

Your needle may be dull, or you may be using the wrong type of needle (for example, a jersey needle should be used for stretchy fabrics). Replace the needle with a new one.

5. Why are the stitches loose or too tight?

Check the tension adjustment knob. For standard stitches, 3-5 is generally ideal. You may need to slightly increase the setting as the fabric thickens.

6. The machine is very noisy, what should I do?

Machines accumulate dust and thread residue over time. Clean the bobbin case and feed area with a brush. If it hasn't been lubricated for a long time, lubricate it according to the instruction manual.

7. Why isn't the fabric advancing, why is it standing still?

The feeds may be stuck down (they can be lowered for embroidery on some models). Also, check that the presser foot pressure is not too low and that the stitch length is not at "0".

8. Why isn't the bobbin winding properly? When winding the bobbin, make sure the thread passes through the small tension disc and that the bobbin is fully seated on the winding shaft.

Technical Support and Maintenance

9. How often should I lubricate my Moonstar sewing machine?

It is recommended to lubricate once a week with heavy use and every few months with infrequent use. Use only sewing machine oil.

10. My machine is receiving power but doesn't work when I press the pedal, why?

The bobbin winding shaft may have shifted to the right (winding mode). Pull the shaft to the left to return it to sewing mode.

11. Why isn't the zigzag stitch setting working?

Your stitch width setting may be at "0". Make sure you have set the width to your desired zigzag size.

12. Why does the fabric pucker while sewing?

The thread tension is very high, especially with thin fabrics. Lower the tension and try a thinner needle/thread combination.

13. Why isn't the needle threader working?

Make sure the needle is in its highest position. The tool's tab is delicate; use it gently, only when it is perfectly aligned with the needle hole.

14. The reverse stitch (reinforcement) button is stuck, what should I do?

There may be dust accumulated around the button. Gently clean it. If the problem persists, consult technical service.

Usage Tips

15. Which needle should I use for which fabric?
Thin fabrics (silk, chiffon): 70/10 needle

Medium thickness (cotton, linen): 80/12 or 90/14 needle

Thick fabrics (denim, upholstery): 100/16 needle

16. How do I prevent the stitch from bursting in jersey and stretch fabrics?

You must use a "Jersey Needle" (Ball point) and select the stretch stitch setting if your machine has one.

17. The light is on but the sewing doesn't start, what's the problem?

In models with a safety sensor, the front cover may not be fully closed or the buttonhole lever may be lowered to the wrong position.

18. The machine gets stuck while making buttonholes, why?

Make sure the buttonhole foot moves freely according to the fabric thickness and that the buttonhole lever is in the down position.

19. I smell a burning odor coming from the machine's motor, what should I do?

Stop the machine immediately and unplug it. It may have been strained for a long time or the motor brushes may be worn out. Contact Moonstar authorized service.
